Three days Afxentia stage race on Cyprus island in 2011 first time will run in the HC category. The 2nd leg of Cyprus Sunshine Cup is world wide the only stage race for single riders in this status and the winner will earn 160 points for the world ranking.
In these days world cycling federation UCI confirmed the Afxentia stage race as HC (Hors Classe) category. This information from UCI’s headquarter in Aigle, Switzerland made the organizers happy. Since years the passionated people of Bikin’ Cyprus Eventmanagement (together with Cyprus Tourism Organization CTO) put a lot of energy into the improvement of Cyprus Sunshine Cup.
Sunshine Cup is the opener of the European racing season every year. Riders from all over the world gather in the Island for their last and most important preparation before the World Cup season starts. Participation in the races with combination of a training camp in Cyprus, is a «must» for many international Elite Mountain bikers. Racing courses suitable to challenge the riders‘ fitness and readiness for the new season is the character of the Cyprus Sunshine Cup. Highlight of the Cup is the Afxntia Stage Race that takes place every year on the last weekend of February in Macheras Forest. Well know riders enjoy this 3 day stage race as it is a Real mountain bike race. A combination of the pictursqe scenery of the surrounding area and the challenging courses constitute a complete package for the participants.
For 2011, Cyprus Sunshine Cup will be take place as follows.
The Cyprus Cycling Federation in cooperation with the Cyprus Tourism Organization and Bikin’Cyrus Event Management organize once again in 2011, the international "Cyprus Sunshine Cup” races, which are registered in the International Union of Cycling calendar.
International Mountain bike races are being organized for the past 14 years in a row and each year their success is growing more and more, as the greatest names of mountain bike participate in them.
