Eliminator world champion Alexandra Engen will compete again in Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2013. German national champion Manuel Fumic challenges Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy in the opening round of the mountainbike series in Voroklini on 23rd of February.
Alexandra Engen is a regular guest in Cyprus Sunshine cup. For the 25 years old Swede the Series is a kind of pattern for a successful season. Since years she uses Cyprus to introduce herself into the competition mode.
Last year Engen had bad luck. After a harmless crash in Voroklini she suffered from an injury in the wrist, which was supposed to endanger her qualifying for the Olympics.
Eventually everything went fine and Alexandra Engen in London finished on a great sixth place. Four weeks later the rider of Ghost Factory Racing celebrated her biggest success by winning the first ever Eliminator Sprint world championships in Saalfelden (Aut).
Engen will race all three rounds of Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2013. Meanwhile her two team mates Katrin Leumann (Sui) and Elisabeth Osl (Aut) will race round two, the Afxentia stage race and three at Amathous. Former European champion Leumann and former world cup overall winner Osl, both belong to the worlds best female mountainbikers.
Fumic meets Kulhavy and prepares for Cape Epic
In 2012 Manuel Fumic finished on fourth position in Voroklini. He was riding close to Olympic gold medalist Jaroslav Kulhavy for a long time, then losing the contact by a crash.
This year he can change the things. In Cyprus Sunshine Cup’s opener in Voroklini, Manuel Fumic will meet Kulhavy again. Apart from this duel, Fumic has the same goal as Kulhavy: preparing for the Cape Epic. Same as the Czech, he will ride the stage race in South Africa for the very first time.
Manuel Fumic will arrive on Cyprus together with his two u23 team mates Anton Cooper (Nzl) and Keegan Swenson (USA). The eyes of the spectators should in Voroklini should pay attention on these young guns, especially on Anton Cooper. The junior world champion of 2012 is regarded as one of the most talented rider. Comparing his world cup lap times to the ones of the elite riders, last year the Kiwi was even not far away from top ten in the world cup.
