Third and last round of Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2013 takes place at Amathous on Sunday. Olympic silver medalist Sabine Spitz and Katrin Leumann in the orange jersey of the overall leader are fight for the win. Giant bikers Emil Lindgren and Henk-Jaap Moorlag hoping for the absence of flat tires to fight for the win.
After Afxentia winner Fabian Giger (Sui, Giant Pro XC) has left the sunny island to continue his foreseen program with Swiss national team, his team mates Lindgren and Moorlag could step into the breach. Both, the Swede and the Dutch suffered from flat tires at Afxentias cross country race last Sunday. Lindgren even knows how to win at Amathous as he showed in 2012.
The biggest rival of the two should be Jan Skarnitzl (Cze, Sram Rubena Specialized) after showing a really strong performance in the Macheras Mountains. Skarnitzl is also in the best position to grab the CSC overall. Of course Nicola Rohrbach (Sui, Goldwurst Powwer/Stockli). who was able to follow Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy in Sundays cross country race until the last lap, also is a podium candidate.
For the women’s competition it looks like Katrin Leumann (Ghost Factory Racing) is going to keep the orange Jersey. The Swiss Olympian since CSC opener in Voroklini rides on a high level, especially in the downhill parts. And the 5,5 kilometer course in between the ruins of ancient Amathous, right outside of Limassol boundaries, is a technical demanding one.
For the stage win sure, she has to pay attention on Adelheid Morath (Sabine Spitz-Haibike). The German was a surprise at Afxentia, also for herself. Her qualities are on the physical side, but the course asks also for that. Remembering 2012, Morath was solo in the lead at Amathous, before she was caught by Annika Langvad.
Also Moraths team leader Sabine Spitz could be a contender for the victory. Elisabeth Osl (Ghost Factory Racing) is back again in racing. After leaving the Afxentia stage by stomach problems, the Austrian world cup overall winner of 2009, will try to be up with the top ladies.
