Cyprus again is going to be the starting point of the mountain bike season for a lot of the very best athletes. The fabulous Rabo-Liv duo Marianne Vos and Pauline Ferrand Prevot confirmed their start in the Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2015 as well as Olympic gold medalist Jaroslav Kulhavy and Eliminator world champion Kathrin Stirnemann. Also Bart Brentjens sends his complete Betch.nl Superior team.
The successful story continues
The Cyprus Sunshine Cup from end of February to the beginning of March will host again a lot of top guns of mountain biking. It’s Pauline Ferrand Prevot, the road world champion and two times world cup winner in 2014, who uses the Mediterranean island and the Afxentia SHC stage race (26/2 to 1/3) to prepare the season 2015. And it’s her Rabo-Liv team mate and predecessor as world champion on the road, Marianne Vos who will upgrade the womens competition to an absolutely high level.
Marianne Vos in 2013 was on Cyprus and took the overall victory of the Afxentia stage race.
The Dutch and her French team colleague are preparing for the mountain bike season as well as for the road season. The both wanted to combine the two disciplines, already having the 2016 Olympic Games in their minds.
As already released, Gunn-Rita Dahle-Flesjaa (Multivan-Merida) has confirmed her participation. The nine time world champion from Norway on the mountain bike has just released, that she will race the Cape Epic stage race together with Kathrin Stirnemann. The 25 years old Swiss, now riding for Haibike-Ötztal, also announced to join the Cyprus Sunshine Cup.
“It’s good to compare our current performance”, says the Eliminator world and European champion 2014. And of course to step up the performance regarding the Cape Epic.
“It’s really great to have four women in the race with rainbow stripes in five different cycling disciplines. That has a wow effect”, CSC organizer Mike Hadjioannou shows himself happy. Dahle-Flesjaa was four times world champion in cross country, five times in marathon. Stirnemann holds the title in Eliminator, Ferrand Prevot on the road and Marianne Vos, beneath her titles on the road, is seven times world champion and current title holder in cyclo cross.
Rainbow stripes also among the men
To continue with the rainbow stripes: Jaroslav Kulhavy (Specialized Racing) is not only the Olympic gold medallist from London, he also joins the Cyprus Sunshine Cup as current marathon world champion and cross country world champion 2011.
Kulhavy leads a nine rider squad from Czech republic, including the Europeans bronze medallist Jan Skarnitzl (Sram Rubena Trek) and marathon European champion Tereza Hurikova (Superior).
The first Olympic champion in mountain biking, Bart Brentjens, confirmed his whole team of seven riders. His squad includes the huge French talent Margot Moschetti, u23 vice world champion, and u23 world cup winner Yana Belomoina (Ukr).
As already announced Cannondale pro Manuel Fumic has also set the Cyprus Sunshine Cup on his schedule. The German, vice world champion in 2013, it looks like, that he will be accompanied by his new team mate Henrique Avancini, who knows Cyprus already from former years.
